Dark Secrets is the fourth book in the Cursed In Darkness series. In this installment of the series, Layla and her friends are being hunted, and she is determined to save herself and the others before it is too late.
In this installment of the series we learn a lot about Layla, and I was really surprised by the twists in her character. I cannot deny the creativity of Hancock when it comes to the characters she has created. She also introduced a few new and unique characters in this book.
As far as the storyline, I probably enjoyed this book the most of all so far. I still have a few issues though. The biggest issue is that I would like it to read a little more smoothly. There were a couple of places in the book that lost me when the scene transitioned. Also, the flow of the writing is still a little rough. I don’t know if it is because we are mainly reading Layla’s point of view in the present tense or if it is Layla’s manner of speaking.
Just like the other books in the series, Hancock is very descriptive in writing the scenes of the book, especially the action sequences. Having read the series from the start, I am really starting to see Hancock grow as a writer. There are just a few details that need to be worked out. Like the previous installments, we are left with a huge cliffhanger. I am really interested in seeing Layla and Shade’s next adventure.
The hunter has made himself known, and now everyone is gone. Layla and a few others are now being hunted and have become hunters themselves. They must travel through an underground cave in order to get to those they love and Layla is not stopping for anything.
There are other creatures in the cave which they encounter, and some they wish not to even see, and with no success.
Their lives, and those who have been taken, are on the line, and the farther they walk through the cave, the more they are faced with danger, the more Layla struggles to keep her deep dark secrets just that—a secret.
It is not that simple, however. And as the secrets unfold, the hunter closes in.
Will it be too late for Layla to save the others?
