Chosen, book one in the Magnolia Vampire Series is a young adult paranormal book. The story revolves around Maddie who is of mixed heritage – human, vampire, elf and fairy. She is almost 18 when she learns she may have a special purpose in life.
I think the overall storyline is a good concept and the book will appeal more toward young teens. However, sometimes the wording was a little awkward, and the explanations a bit too wordy. This seemed to slow the flow of the story.
Maddie’s love interest in the story is William, a full-blooded vampire. I found his character to be likeable. I wish there had been more to the relationship between them. They were a couple almost even before they met. I would have liked to see more of a developing relationship between the two.
What I wanted to see most in the story was a little more conflict and build up. There were no surprises or plot twists. This is the first book of the Magnolia Vampire Series. Chosen basically concentrates on Maddie learning about her ancestors and training to use her ever growing powers. I have to believe that the deeper plots and twists will come in the future installments of the series. The potential for a good young adult series is here. It just needs some more development.

Rumors spread about a forming vampire army, world wide, desiring control of all races. As Maddie and her new friends begin protection training in the magical sanctuary near her house, new powers appear, attacks begin and relationships deepen. There are no dull moments for the people of Elmwood, Arkansas.
