What’s new and exciting in your life?
Well, I am almost finished with the B.A. in history and this summer I am getting married. I can’t wait, its just four months away now.
Can you tell us a little about your book Caressed by Moonlight?
Caressed by Moonlight is the first novel of the Rulers of Darkness series.
This book is a mixture of historical and paranormal romance, taking place in the early 1800s. Orphaned, penniless, and forced to sell everything she owns to pay off her father’s debt, Victoria Kingston stands to lose her younger sister if she does not find a husband within a month. Dorian Vlakhos comes to London with the hope of saving his clan from the bloodthirsty witches and one vampire that would steal his throne.
One kiss will bring them together and send them into a storm of love, passion, betrayal, and death.
Caressed by Moonlight had such vivid detail and the characters really fit well within the era you based the story. Is that time in history something you’ve always enjoyed or did you have to do a lot of research?
I do enjoy reading books set in the regency England era. I really love historical and paranormal romance novels and thought it would be great to combine the two. I must admit I prefer the Dark Age and Medieval era. I’m planning on writing some books that take place during those times. I didn’t have to do much research. Being a history major I already had background knowledge of the time period.
What was your inspiration behind Caressed by Moonlight?
I really don’t remember. I wrote the first version of this story about ten years ago when I was in middle school. A few years ago I began going through the three-ring binders I use to keep my stories in and decided to give it a rewrite and a polish.
What was the toughest part of writing Caressed by Moonlight? Anything you wish you would’ve done differently?
The toughest part was the end. It took me months to figure out how I wanted to bring Dorian and Victoria’s story to a close. I am very happy with the way it turned out.
Is there anything that I would have done differently…? Sometimes I think I could have added more detail or been more descriptive, but overall I feel that Caressed by Moonlight is a strong story and the characters are memorable. I hope the readers feel the same way and are as anxious as I am to have the second book in the series, Caressed by Night, released.
Are currently working on anything? Do you plan to continue the Rulers of Darkness series?
I am currently working on two projects. The first is the second novel for the Rulers of Darkness series, Caressed by Night. The second is my first teen book, The Darkest Light.
What do you like to do when you aren’t writing?
I love to read when I am not writing. Shocking! I also come from a close Italian family so when I have spare time I like to spend it with them.
Who are some of your favorite authors? Do any of them influence your writing style?
Two of my favorite authors are J.R. Ward and Johanna Lindsey. I don’t really know if any of my favorite authors influence my writing style, but I would like my books to be as romantic and Johanna Lindsey’s and as interesting as Ms. Ward’s.
When did you know you wanted to be an author? Did you always want to write about vampires?
I began writing about 10 years ago and at the time I had no intension of becoming an author since I was in middle school. I have always had an over active imagination and once I read my first vampire novel, Companions of the Night by Vivian Vande Velde, I knew exactly how I wanted to use my creativity. I wrote for fun at first, sharing my work with some friends through middle school and high school. In fact, I wrote the first draft of Caressed by Moonlight in 8th grade. A few years ago I began to think about reaching out with my stories. I love my characters and I want to share them with as many people as I can.
Do you have any other writings you’d like to share with us?
At the moment everything I have is a work in progress. College, work, and family take up most of my time.
What do you find to be the hardest about getting your book into the hands of readers?
I am a self-published author with a small budget; therefore, it is hard to get my book listed and noticed.
The cover for Caressed by Moonlight is beautiful and unique. Did you get to choose the cover?
My friend, Nadine Wiebe, designed the cover for Caressed by Moonlight. She created the cover, which is a painting, after reading a few chapter segments of the manuscript. She is truly gifted.
If you could choose two people to play Dorian and Victoria, who would you pick?
WOW! That is a tough question…I really don’t know who I would chose. I think I would have to hold a casting session in order to find the right people. I love my characters too much for them to be played by people that don’t look like them or have a firm understanding of who the characters. Besides, I would like to give someone new a chance.
Thanks again for taking the time to interview with VRB. Is there anything you’d like to add or say to the readers?
Just that I hope they like Caressed by Night as much as they liked Caressed by Moonlight. Thank you to all those who gave my debut book a chance.
