The wined 2Joanne’s life as a young socialite in Savannah, Georgia left her feeling unsatisfied and smothered. She existed to do what was expected of her, never living her life as she envisioned; then she died and became Winged. The Winged are an army that work under the guidance of the Archangels. The dispel Demons that come to wreak havoc on Earth.

Joanne is an amazing character. Becoming Winged was a chance for her to be what she could never be in her former life. She becomes a warrior. Her intelligence and determination make up for any weaknesses she may have. There are so many great characters in this series including her team of fellow Winged, and her love interests Archangels Michael and Raphael.

L.M. Pruitt is the creator of this wonderful series. I was glued to the books. Although I’ve seen the premise of the good versus evil story many times Pruitt does it with flair. There is action, excitement, lust, and everything in between.  These novels provoke the reader to feel. Pruitt doesn’t back down from hard subject matter, and she isn’t afraid to write about what some would view as controversial and I absolutely loved that.
The first six books focus mostly on Joanne’s story and how she ascended from a scared young woman joining the Winged to something Legends are made of. The last four books I would consider more of a spin-off focusing on a new generation of Winged, including Joanne’s daughter Olivia. These books do not stand alone and need to be read from the beginning, but it is well worth the journey!

For the first time, all ten books in the international bestselling Winged series are available as a single set.

The story begins with Joanne Watson…

I fell from the Talmadge Bridge the week before I turned thirty.

I was given a choice: Go to Heaven. Go back to my life in Savannah. Or spend eternity fighting evil under the direction of the archangels.

I chose the demons–and the angels.

I chose the Winged.

In the last year, Joanne Watson has died, fallen in love, fought demons and earned her Wings.

None of that compares to what’s coming next….

Life as a member of the Winged isn’t perfect–or easy. There’s always some new camp drama. There’s always a demon ready for a fight. There’s always death.

And now there’s the Resistance.

Joanne must choose again, this time between her fellow Winged and their burning desire for change or the archangels and the eternal vow she made.

Even in the afterlife, one truth remains–everything ends

In the last year, Joanne Watson has survived repeated attempts on her life, wholesale slaughter, and the dissolution on the cornerstone of her new existence.

And the hard times are only beginning.

As the line between right and wrong, friend and foe, and good and evil continue to blur, Joanne is forced to face another irrefutable fact.

The most dangerous demons to fight are the ones you can’t see.

The last six months have seen more death and destruction than any could have predicted.

And the war is only beginning.

With the fight taking Joanne and her friends from city streets to abandoned farms to the center of the earth, only one thing is certain.

The hunters are now the hunted.

The Fallen have one goal–storm the gates of Heaven and reclaim their heritage.

The Winged have one mission–to prevent it all costs.

From North America to Africa, Europe to South American, the stage is being set for the final battle, the one to end all worlds, and with it comes an ugly truth.

Keep your friends close–and your enemies closer.

Everything has led to this.

One final battle.

Truth. Lies.

Justice. Revenge.

Love. Hate.

At the very end–what do you fight for?

And continues with her daughter, Olivia…

“I looked and behold, a white horse, and who he sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.” Revelation 6:2

After one hundred odd years of peace, the fate of the world once again hangs in limbo.

The First Horseman of the Apocalypse has been released.

The new generation must rise to the challenge before the millennia old dominos start to fall. And the Second Horseman is released.

Where does obligation end–and duty begin?

The first domino has fallen.

Dissent in the military is spreading to the people–old, young, and everyone in between.

As the stakes grow higher, Olivia and her team must fight their own demons in order to stop the Second Horseman.

In war, only one thing is certain–blood will be spilled.

Olivia is gone. Taken by Carestia. I had her in my hand but I couldn’t hold on.

Maybe this is my judgment, my punishment, for denying the truth. For denying how much I love her.

So I’ll hunt for her. No matter how long it takes, no matter where I have to go. I’ll find her. I won’t stop until I do.

And then–then, we’ll finish Carestia.

The number of people who will die unless we find and destroy Mavet once and for all.

Men. Women. Children. Old. Young. Rich. Poor.

Everyone–and everything–is a stake.

Failing isn’t an option.

So we won’t.

Camden shrugged his shoulders. “Don’t be so hard on yourself. If she is your mate, it’s nothing you did on your own. It would’ve happened regardless.” The phone rang. Kaden stood, but Camden motioned for him to sit back down. “I’ll take care of it.” He headed toward their family room in the front of the house.

“There’s really no need to panic at this point,” Hayden said, opening the refrigerator, pausing to check out the contents, finally settling on lunch meat and cheese. “I suggest you act as if nothing has changed.”

Kaden thought about how he’d left things with Annabelle. There was no way they could go back to the way they were. The next time he saw her, she’d expect answers. She deserved answers. “I don’t see how that can happen.”

Hayden glanced up from the sandwich he was making. “Why is that?”

I had her halfway to an orgasm, then ran out of there without an explanation. “I left things a bit…awkward with her.”

Hayden turned his attention back to the triple-decker submarine he was building. “Do what you feel is best—I’m not concerned. You’ve never given me a reason to doubt your decisions before. Just remember to pay attention to any variances in your behavior. If you sense any change, let us know immediately.”

Camden came back into the room, still clutching the portable phone. “I think we have a problem.”

Kaden’s entire body tensed. “What now?”

Camden pointed over his shoulder. “Annabelle is on her way here. She’s in a cab at the front gate.”

“Don’t let her in.” He paused for a second. Not allowing her in would only escalate the situation. There had to be a better answer. “Tell her I’m not here.”

Camden rubbed the back of his neck. “Too late, bro. Barney buzzed her in.”

What was the point of living in this secluded neighborhood if the security team let in anyone who showed up at the gate? He made a mental note to have a long talk with Barney’s supervisor in the morning. “Why would he do that?”

Hayden chuckled. “A pretty human showing up in the middle of the night isn’t exactly newsworthy around here. Barney probably assumed she was here for Camden.” Camden winked at Hayden.

Was this a regular occurrence when he wasn’t home? “How many humans have you brought back to this house?” Kaden asked, irritation filling his tone. “Do you have no respect for any of the rules we’ve set?”

Camden raised an eyebrow. “Hey, glass house, now really isn’t the time for you to preach to me about the rules.” He made his way toward the staircase with his chest puffed out like a proud canary. “Sounds like you have plenty of explaining to do, so I’ll leave you to handle that.”

Hayden placed his sandwich on a paper plate. “I’m going to eat my snack in my office.” As he was leaving the room he glanced over his shoulder. “Be sure to give the human my regards.”

Emma is a thrill seeking Chosen. Her adventurous lifestyle finances her research on vampires. She wants to help their cause and show the human world they can co-exist. To the vampires the Chosen are to be protected, and Devlin has learned this the hard way. It seems to him that Emma just can’t keep out of harm’s way. He wants to keep his distance from her because of the pull he feels toward her, but he doesn’t know how to do that when he has to make sure she’s safe.

Emma is the type of woman who takes life by the horns. She is absolutely fearless, and I think part of the reason is that as a Chosen she will either die young or become a vampire. She is an optimist believes in peace between the humans and vampires. Devlin is a vampire who is the polar opposite of Emma. He is attracted to her, but doesn’t trust her. He is a warrior who hates humans, and believes war is the answer.

Twilight Vendetta was an exciting read. The vampires are up against a government agency called the DPI that is out to eradicate them. Then add in government created mutants called the Offspring, and you are in for plenty of suspense. Unfortunately I didn’t have the opportunity to read the first book in the series; I think had I read the previous book this story would have had even more of an impact. Despite this fact I still enjoyed the novel. Shayne is an author nearly every fan of the paranormal genre has heard of, but until now this has been my first opportunity to read her work, and I was not disappointed!

Devlin doesn’t like humans. Most would support the extermination of the entire vampire race, and that’s exactly what will happen, unless his plan to organize a resistance force succeeds.

Emma is the only mortal who’s ever managed to get under his skin. She’s haunted him his entire life. He senses when she’s in trouble, is drawn to her by energies he cannot understand.

Emma is a thrill seeker who makes a hefty living writing about her adventures. Now, she wants to walk with vampires, to live among them. The book she’ll write afterward will be the work of a lifetime, and will help establish peace between the races. Education, enlightenment, understanding–these are the ways to end the current climate of fear and violence.

Devlin is determined to visit destruction on humans.

Emma is determined to stop him, even if it means betraying the powerful passion that burns between them, and the feelings underneath, feelings so explosive that even she is afraid to plumb them too deeply.

Elena Acros was in the wrong place at the wrong time when she got caught up in a robbery. Nikolai Itzov thought he was going to avenge the death of his father, but the one he was after just turned out to be a human, or mostly human. It was his duty to end her life, but something about Elena makes him hesitant to go through with his mission.

When the reader meets Elena she comes across as meek, but hidden beneath the surface lies a strong minded individual.  When her circumstances change so does she.  Nikolai is a Slayer, and in world that makes him the equivalent of human law enforcement. He is more cocky and dominant almost to a fault. These two mesmerizing characters definitely lend balance to each other’s personalities.
Love You to Death was a fun read for me. There is not a lull in excitement throughout the whole book. Don’t get me started on the smoking hot chemistry between Elena and Nikolai! Clarke’s storytelling is so entertaining that I didn’t want to stop reading. There was a whole world of different paranormal creatures, and so much to learn about them. The supporting characters were fascinating, and I get the feeling there are many more stories to be told. I can’t wait to get my hands on the second book!

Medical research scientist Elena Arcos has always lived her life under the radar. When she is shot in a convenience store robbery, she finds herself rocketed into supernatural insanity courtesy of a sexy immortal law enforcer. He’s convinced she’s some kind of freaky half-vampire thing and that her deceased dad was the real deal: a blood sucking monster. Yeah, right.

As a Slayer, an elite law enforcer descended from Azrael himself, Nikolai Itzov’s orders from the Underveil General are clear: Kill Elena Arcos or die. The only thing holding him back from that directive is the overwhelming urge to protect her. Too bad she’s also the offspring of his father’s murderer. Kissing Elena, let alone being with her body and soul, can never happen.

Nikolai and Elena find themselves in a life and death battle to stop a plot designed to lift the Underveil and enslave humans. With her analytical mind and his centuries of training, they might be able to foil the plot with their lives, and maybe even with their hearts intact. But in order to succeed, he must help her become the very thing he hates the most: an Undead.

Zac and his friend find themselves in New York City. They are fascinated by the city, but being Normals their life will be far from easy. Lyla is one of the Elite; you would think her life would be easy, especially when compared to the life of a Normal. However, she lives in a gilded cage and her whole life is pre-arranged without regard for what she wants. When Zac sees Lyla on the bridge as he enters the city he knows she is his fated mate; a fact that could cost them both their lives.

Zac is a survivor. Despite his lot in life he remains optimistic. He is still able to see beauty in the world, and he makes a conscious choice to make life as good as possible. Lyla has nearly given up and accepted her fate. She hates what the world has become, but feels powerless to stop it. When she meets Zac she soon learns that sometimes you have to take a risk for the things that are important.

This was an interesting story. Although the landmarks may be the same the world that the story takes place in is nothing like the world we live in today. The setting for the book has, what I would describe as, a post-apocalyptic feel to it. Burch did a good job at portraying the injustice of this alternate reality. There were times that the book lagged for me, especially in the beginning.  Fortunately it picked up as the story progressed, and there were parts that were quite exciting.

If I had to describe the series I would describe it as a new age paranormal romance. I feel the series would appeal more to readers in their late teens than it would adults.  Overall, I thought City of Wolves was a story with an interesting concept. Shifter is definitely a series that has plenty of potential.

She’s an elite.

He’s a wolf and an outcast.

Their forbidden passion will move worlds.

Everyone knows wolves love with a dangerous passion. They lock on a woman and never let her go. From the moment they imprint on her, they will kill for her, and die for her.

Lyla is more than rich. She’s one of The Elite, a paranormal class that rules society with an iron fist. She arrives in Manhattan to begin training as an enforcer.

Zac is an orphan, an outcast, and a shifter. Turning into a wolf is an unforgivable crime in the elite regime. Enforcers hunt down and kill anyone who can shift.

When Zac and Lyla meet, they know love is hopeless, but their powerful attraction is simply too great. Fighting to overcome the ruthlessness of their society, Zac and Lyla learn that true love can overcome any obstacle, but not without dire consequences.
Shifter: City of Wolves, is a paranormal romance that features passionate romance, intensely real emotion, supernatural powers, and forbidden shifter love. It contains mature themes.

Grave Hauntings is a collection of short stories by various authors. All sorts of creatures are here to be discovered by the willing reader who is in the market for something dark and sexy.

I enjoyed reading this book. For me it was a chance to get acquainted with some authors I haven’t yet had the pleasure of reading.  As with any book like this there are always some stories you are more drawn to than others, but the wonderful thing is a reader is sure to find something that will fit their taste.

Grave Hauntings was the perfect way to showcase the authors’ work. Some stories were true short stories while others were a piece of a larger work. It was all entertaining, and for that reason I hope to see more from these authors in the future, and I will be watching a little closer for things that go bump in the night.

Just in time to send a shudder up your spine, Grave Hauntings has a mixture of scary, sexy, and downright sizzlingly HOT short stories. The talented authors in this group worked excruciatingly hard to make your evenings seem a touch creepier and the corners feel a bit darker. There’s something for everyone. From vampires and wolves, to ghosts and zombies, to death dealers – well, as far as those are concerned, you might find a friend to hide behind.

This may be a season of fun and excitement for the children as they imbibe too much sugar, but we feel the adults need a Halloween jolt as well. Come celebrate the true Halloween spirit with us.
