Paisley Munro loves animals; in fact she can communicate with them. Her abilities help her with her job as a veterinary assistant, but she has also been ridiculed because of her gift. Paisley has a hard time opening up to anyone. When she accompanies her Grandmother to Scotland for a funeral there is an instant connection to Creighton Matheson, and it seems the Laird has secrets of his own.

Paisley is a beautiful soul, but at times her insecurities get the better of her. Her Gram has been the constant in her life, but Paisley is reserved next to her eccentric Grandmother. I will tell you this woman left nothing unsaid, I loved her! The bond between these two women is absolutely unbreakable. Creighton is all alpha male, but being Laird as well as a bear shifter what else can you expect? He is commanding and at times temperamental, but he wears his heart on his sleeve. Right away he makes his intentions clear to Paisley, and he brings out the spitfire in the mousy little lady! Did I mention Creigh has two sexy brothers? I was in Highland Heaven!

Davis gave me many of the elements I like in a good novel. For anyone that knows me, they have no doubt I get all hot and bothered over a man who rocks the kilt; as if that didn’t do it for me she gave me shifters too! I enjoyed this book so much, not only was the chemistry between the lead characters searing, but there was also a healthy amount of humor that had me laughing out loud. Vonnie Davis’s writing is witty, sexy, and fun. Reading her story was a pleasure. I am excited over the fact there are two brothers left who have their tales to be told!

In the vein of Jennifer Ashley’s Shifters Unbound series and Shelly Laurenston’s Pride Stories, Vonnie Davis introduces two wandering souls who discover that true love needs no words in this explosive, fantastical novel.

Somehow able to telepathically communicate with animals, Paisley Munro has found meaning in her so-called gifts by working as a veterinary assistant. But while traveling to Scotland for a relative’s funeral, Paisley fears that she really has lost her mind. Out in the highlands, she hears distinctly human thoughts coming from a wild bear. Terrified and desperate, she returns to the lodge and collapses in the powerful arms of its owner, a mysterious man with whom she shares a simmering attraction.

Creighton Matheson and his fellow shape-shifters have been roaming this land freely for centuries. Now Paisley may inherit his home, putting his kind in grave danger. His mistrust only deepens when he realizes she can read his mind. Yet he cannot deny that this tantalizing woman makes him burn with desire—and hunger for the prospect of a tender love. Now Creighton must decide which would hurt more: revealing the truth or losing Paisley forever.

Chari is a geneticist who wants to make a difference in the world. This woman of science wants to be an asset to mankind by curing disease, and helping her fellow man. One night she sees her best friend taken by vampires. She can’t believe they exist, but switches her focus to finding a cure for vampirism. She doesn’t know of the difference between vampires who have souls, and the mindless rogue vampires she knows of. When she kills one of Haven’s most cherished vampires it looks like she will pay with her life. Then Vincent, a tormented vampire, stands up for her and turns his back on his own. Now if they are to survive the reckoning Chari must prove she is remorseful and Vincent is forced to bring a haunted past to light.

I admired Chari’s intelligence and compassion. Her character’s complexity made her interesting. She is a scientist being faced with things her scientific mind cannot answer. Her confusion is quite apparent. Her feelings for Vincent are equally as confusing. Vincent has no doubt Chari is meant to be his, and though she finds him attractive she is unsure of herself. Even with their lives in the balance Chari always remains true to herself. Vincent is the epitome of the broody and tormented vampire. It is obvious he is unwell and weary. He wants Chari to love him as he loves her, and this powerful being seems so close to breaking that my heart ached for him.

Monteau delivers once again on what has to be my favorite Haven’s Realm book so far. She writes with such passion you can’t help but be pulled into her supernatural world. I truly believe she is an author who is very talented and deserves more acknowledgements. She really has a lot to bring to the table. It has been a joy watching her progress as a writer throughout the series. I am looking forward to see what is in store for the members of the Haven clan next!

When her best friend is taken by a vampire, Dr. Charlotte Vinetti shifts her genetic research focus in hopes of finding a cure. Five years later, she’s no closer to her goal, and long-troubled by the one vampire she’d killed who was different from the rest. Her worst nightmares become terrifying reality when she’s captured and realizes her captors are intelligent, sentient beings rather than the mindless creatures who continued to invade her home. Vincent was nearing the end of his strength. Haven’s trials over the past five years had overtaxed his resources, but he knew with dread his problems were only beginning when the hunter the Community had long sought was the reincarnation of his deepest love. Forced by ancient promises to stand against the Bargain, his only hope lies in ending their gypsy curse and winning her love, for only then can he earn the Council’s forgiveness.

Larissa wants to make a fresh start in New Hope. She got a great deal on a shop and apartment and is excited to be opening her new business. Larissa realizes New Hope isn’t what it seems. When she meets her sexy Landlord Garrick, and his friend Ramon, she is forced to believe in something she never imagined to be real.

Larissa is a strong independent woman who knows she can make it on her own. She is excited to start a new life and a successful business. Garrick is a vampire, and he wants Larissa as his Crimson Swan, a lover and blood donor, from the second he lays eyes on her. Garrick is sexy, and his demeanor is serious and protective. Ramon is a vampire with abilities as a sorcerer. He seems the opposite of Garrick. Like Garrick, Ramon is gorgeous and protective, but his demeanor is more laid back and flirtatious. It is no wonder Larissa is attracted to both men! Other interesting characters include, Jordan, a college student who works for Larissa; and Bastian who is the leader of the vampire guild. I would love to see these two characters get their own story.

Nightlord Lover is an erotic paranormal that involves a very steamy ménage between Larissa, Garrick, and Ramon. It is apparent both men are in love with Larissa, and Larissa is in love with Garrick. What bothered me was Ramon’s role, is he a good friend with benefits? I wish Kulig would have slightly altered the relationship dynamic, because by the end Ramon just seemed like a third wheel. The town of New Hope reminded me of Salem’s Lot or Morganville, only it is much more erotic with its Crimson Swans. Vampire politics are at play, which gives the story the edge it needs to be exciting. All in all I enjoyed Kulig’s story. She combined my two favorite genres, paranormal and erotica, into one dark, dangerous, and delicious page turner. I would rate it 3.5 stars.

Memory Zero is the first installment of the Spook Squad series. Samantha “Sam” Ryan has been on the police force for ten years. In Sam’s world, humans know about the existence of vampires and other supernatural creatures. These species are policed in part by the SIU also known as the Spook Squad. After an incident involving her missing partner, she finds herself in deep water and a person of interest to the Spook Squad. Sam doesn’t trust anyone, but when her life is saved by a ranking member of the SIU named Gabriel Stern they must put trust in each other to survive.

Sam is an interesting character. She does not remember her life before the age of fourteen, and has not had any luck in discovering her past. She is definitely more than human. Gabriel harbors many secrets of his own, and he wants to learn Sam’s. It is apparent there is a spark between Gabriel and Sam, but neither is willing to give up enough about themselves to act on it. Having their lives constantly endangered is not conducive to them learning about each other on a personal level either.

Keri Arthur gives the reader a proper start to this new series. It has mysterious lead characters to dig into, and plenty of action. I enjoyed the storyline, which was fast paced as well as riveting. Arthur is a talented author who has the ability to create imagery that will reel readers in. Like most first books in a series the writer sets you up for what is to come, so the end will leave you hanging in the dark, but that will just make you even more intrigued about the second book.

I would recommend Memory Zero to paranormal readers as well as fans of science fiction. Although the story is paranormal there are some really cool sci-fi elements, especially when it comes to the gadgetry of the future. This novel brings a taste of both genres. Personally, I can’t wait to unearth the truth about Sam. I am also compelled to see if a fire ignites between Sam and Gabriel.

Publication Date: August 26, 2014

For Sam Ryan, life began at age fourteen. She has no memory of her parents or her childhood. In a decade of service with the State Police, Sam has exhausted the resources of the force searching for clues to her identity. But all mention of her family seems to have been deliberately wiped off the record. Everything changes the night Sam’s missing partner resurfaces as a vampire . . . and forces her to kill him in self-defense. Now Sam is charged with murder. Suspended from the force, and with no one left to trust, Sam accepts some unexpected help from Gabriel Stern, a shapeshifter who conceals startling secrets.

While investigating the circumstances surrounding her partner’s strange behavior, Sam discovers that Garbriel’s been involved with a dangerous organization that’s planning a war on the human race. More immediate, someone is guarding the truth about Sam’s past—someone who’d rather see her dead than risk her knowing too much. To stay alive, Sam must unravel the threads of her past—and find out not only who she is but what she is.

Book Description:

What happens when monsters turn out to be real? One summer night while camping in the woods, Morgan Carter finds out in a big way. A tall mysterious stranger, Greyson Crawford, risks his life to try and save her sister from the vicious wolf attacking their camp. When he’s bitten and disappears into the night, Morgan can only assume the worst.

Greyson shows up a year later, and he’s a different animal altogether. His eye color shifts constantly and the rumble in his throat sounds more animal than human. She hasn’t any idea where he’s been all this time, but a good guess as to what he’s become.

Grey is determined not to let the darkness of his new existence affect Morgan and the little girl in her care. He hasn’t been able to stop thinking about Morgan but knows he should stay away and let her live a normal life. That’s easier said than done, though. A new danger pulls him from the shadows to keep her safe, and he’s no wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Can she accept what lurks just below his surface? More importantly, can she survive him?

Grey’s arms and legs were on fire, burning from his very veins, blistering every nerve ending on the way out. Why was the pain tearing through his chest? He tried to hail the woman but nothing came out except a quiet groan. Was he dying? He arched his neck toward her sister. Her body was so mangled it was all but unrecognizable as human. The girl’s eyes were open, fixed, staring back at him. She was dead. Would he die, too? What was that thing? That monster?

Maybe this was all a dream. Maybe he still slept, back in his campsite a quarter of a mile away. He’d been sleeping there only a few minutes ago. Maybe he was just having a vivid night terror and he’d wake at any moment to the relief that this wasn’t real. The girl slid over to him, but he was already panting in pain. Fire in his blood burned him up.

Her mouth moved, but he couldn’t hear anything over the roaring in his ears. Like helicopter blades, the sound drowned out everything. Her lips were full, and when his vision blurred, he tried to focus on her face. She was beautiful. Tiny. Delicate like a hummingbird. Even through spilling tears, the moss green color of her eyes was clear and compelling.

Her voice overcame the screeching in his ears. “What’s your name?”

“Greyson,” he rasped. “Greyson Crawford.” Someone should know who he was. Notify Dad what had happened there in the woods of Enchanted Rock. “What’s yours?” It was getting so hard to breathe. He had to know. He’d leave the world on her name.

“Morgan. My name’s Morgan.”

Greyson Crawford was camping when he heard screams in the woods. He follows the sound to find a large wolf attacking two females and a small child. He does his best to protect them, but he was bitten. The last thing he remembered as the world went dark was the beautiful woman looking over him. Morgan Carter was devastated by the loss of her sister to a wolf attack, and now she and her niece are a family of two. She could never forget the man who protected them and disappeared. Greyson enters Morgan’s life once again but he is no longer the man he used to be.

Greyson doesn’t understand completely what happened to him; all he knows is that once he was a man and now he is a monster. His wolf is unchecked and a different entity from him. I love Greyson’s courage. Although he is at odds with himself he is an honorable man. Morgan has overcome so much. She is strong and compassionate. She should fear all that Greyson is, but the bond they have is beautiful.

Shanley gives a very nice introduction to the characters in this new series. I liked her ability to capture emotion, especially Greyson’s. Through his new journey as wolf she takes him through every feeling imaginable, from fear, to anger, through sadness and loneliness, and finally acceptance. I believe that is what drew me into the story. Readers who like their men wolfie should check out this highly emotional read!

I would like to introduce Kathy Bryson to our readers here at She is the author of Feeling Lucky and her latest release Restless Spirits.  Kathy has agreed to stop by for a guest blog today, so without further ado welcome Kathy Bryson!

Blog post –

One of the parts I liked most in vampire romances is the strong woman! It takes a bold and decisive character to put up with everything from the threat of discovery to the constant subterfuge and continual power struggles. Sometimes, good necking just isn’t enough!

No, the heroine in a paranormal romance must be a strong-willed woman, able to stand up for herself and demand her due. And as it turns out, the same kind of heroine is needed to deal with fairies. The Fae are not the little, fluttery creatures that make up kids’ cartoons. The original fairy tales had much darker, more sinister inhabitants.

I was drawn to the Celtic fairytale, Tam Lin, the minute I read it because the central character is a strong woman. In every version of this story, she goes to the underworld to reclaim her man who’s been kidnapped by the fairies, braving all sorts of torments and dangers. It’s a nice change of pace to see the woman as the knight in shining armor.

Of course, as many of us know, a strong, assertive woman is often mistaken for another type of woman altogether. My heroine, Marilee, is well aware that her commanding approach to customer service is not always appreciated. But when you’re dealing with a haunted house, a difficult mother, and hired help that asks questions instead of following directions, forceful may be your only option!

Marilee does have a soft spot for her employer and, despite her best intentions, she’s not quite strong enough to deny her attraction to a certain cute, charming, and compassionate mathematics professor. John Smith may not be a typical alpha male, but as Marilee is about to discover, it takes more than one kind of strength to combat fairy subterfuge and power plays.

Both my books, Feeling Lucky and Restless Spirits, share the same background in fairy folklore though each can be read independently. I love Celtic mythology! In Feeling Lucky, Megan O’Malley gives in to drunken temptation, pinches a cute guy’s ass at her cousin’s wedding, and ends up with an angry leprechaun camped out on her sofa – not a little, green man. According to Irish etymology, leprechaun means ‘sons of Lugh’ or the Celtic god of commerce and war. Leprechauns are actually closer to Marines, doing whatever it takes to preserve their gold.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed writing about leprechauns on a mission and innkeepers with a take-no-prisoners attitude. They’re just the beginning of the epic battle brewing between the King and Queen of the Fairies. Shakespeare may have brought a long-standing feud to light in 1590-something with A Midsummer Night’s Dream, but it’s heating up in the modern-day Midwest. Will the ladies of Fayetteville be strong enough to deal with fairies squabbling over a practical joke as well as their jobs, families, and love lives?

John Smith has every confidence in the bossy, strong woman he hired.
