Vampire Elite is the first book in a new series by Irina Argo. The vampire elite are using a sub species of immortal called the Amiti as their bloodstock. They are kept in captivity and used solely to feed the elite. The Amiti want their freedom and their new Queen wants to help achieve this, war between the species could potentially eradicate both races, but they continue to fight for the upper hand.
This book is full of some of the most amazing characters. More than I could ever write about in a short review. I sometimes find that I am confused when dealing with a lot of characters in one book that play prominent roles, but Argo did the perfect job of introducing them to the reader and making their roles clear. All of these characters interacted flawlessly. Arianna is the young Queen of the Amiti, she is still unaware of her power and her role, but she does know she has to do what she can to free and protect her people. It is the goal of Tor, the vampire king, to make Arianna fall in love with him to keep her under his thumb, but soon finds the feeling of love mutual. Simone is another pivotal character in the book; she is daughter of Tor and half-sister to Arianna. In the beginning I did not like her character, she came across as selfish and spoiled, but I began to see subtle changes in her as the book progressed.
With a touch of Egyptian Mythology, I found this book to be beautifully written. This was one of the few times that I became so entranced in a book I forgotten it was my job to review it! The book isn’t a fast paced thriller, yet it appeals to the heart. Argo showed a world that isn’t black and white. There was no defined good and bad or love and hate. It was the gray areas that made this story worth reading. She brought the characters to life in a way the reader could feel their torment and triumph.
It isn’t often that I finish a book and am rendered near speechless, but I loved this book. Everything about it appealed to me from the mythology to the tragedy and the love. If you are a reader who is looking for the clear HEA you won’t find it in this installment, a fact that only leaves me even more excited for the next book.
A millennia-long war between two immortal races is about to come to an end. Long ago, the Vampire Elite began capturing the immortals called the Amiti, attracted by their unique blood properties. Now most Amiti live in underground cells, forced to serve as vampires’ bloodstock. The few surviving free Amiti, preparing a final strike, have declared their Queen a traitor. Her execution makes possible the rise of a new Queen, her young daughter Arianna, who will inherit her mother’s mystical powers. Working with the Keepers of the Key, Arianna may be able to eliminate the vampires, once and for all, from the face of the earth.
The new Queen is the last hope to save her dying race–and she’s ready to fight to the last drop of her blood.
But the King of the Vampires has other plans.
What neither expects is the passion that erupts between them.
Based on an ancient Egyptian legend, Vampire Elite is the epic story of a bitter conflict between two immortal races–and the effect of that conflict on everyone living in its grip. The characters are driven to love and betrayal, vengeance and sacrifice in a world without easy black-and-white answers.
