The Guilty Innocent, the second book in the Knights of the Darkness series, was surprising even better than the first. While I was disappointed that Darian didn’t play much of a role in this book, I loved the way Natasha’s character really took shape. We still get plenty of Xavier and Natasha, though very few actual sex scenes. Sergio and Elise are also back and we learn much more about them and meet several of their Pride including Devin, whom I just adored from the start. I would really like to know more about him and hope to see him in the future books. We are introduced to a couple more vampires and also get to finally meet Warren’s boyfriend Adrian. The storyline itself however seemed to drag a bit for me. There would be a chapter full of action and then a couple chapters that just seemed to be rather slow and repetitive. That being said, I could tell a big difference between the first book and the second when it came to how the characters interacted with each other. I really like the way each character had a pivotal part in how the story played out. I didn’t care for the end of the book as it felt a little forced, but I can’t really say what happened without giving too much away. It was a good lead into the next book and what we might see from Xavier, Natasha, and Darian.
D.N. Simmons has me intrigued with the Nights of the Darkness and I will certainly be reading the rest of the books in the series.
