The Wannabe Vampire is a story about Michael Alexander.  He is a vampire, but leads a very normal life.  He lives in a regular neighborhood, has a fantastic new neighbor, a good job, and he drives a Prius.  He also has a very unwelcome stalker.

Michael’s character is totally not that of the typical vampire, his life is just so normal!  The only thing that is vampiric about him is his need for blood, and he does have that certain old world charm.  He builds a friendship with his neighbor Kari Logan.  I loved her character because she is not at all the damsel in distress; she looks out for herself.  She is also a bit tomboyish, loves the great outdoors, and she is fun.  Bruce is Michael’s stalker, and he is being haunted.  He is seeking out a vampire to help with his little problem.  Bruce is rather pathetic, but there is no denying that his character is amusing!

Taylor has written a book that took me by surprise.  This was such a fun story with all the elements. There was humor, romance, and excitement in this little paranormal gem.  I sat down with the intentions of reading one or two chapters, and before I knew it the book was finished.  So many authors rely on the cliffhanger ending in series books, but I found it refreshing that Taylor gave the reader some closure.  However, I am certainly going to enjoy revisiting these wonderful characters in future books.

Michael Alexander is not your typical vampire.

He has a house in a small coastal California city, a software development team in Mumbai, and a black Toyota Prius. He wants nothing more than to enjoy the pleasant life he’s crafted for himself and the friendship of Kari, his new next door neighbor.

Unfortunately, Michael also has a stalker.

Bruce is convinced that only the power of a vampire can save him from the ghost that haunts him. After a chance encounter in the grocery store, he turns to Michael for help. When Bruce’s entreaties are rejected, his unstable nature takes over. Trapped between a desperate and deranged man and his fantasies, Michael and Kari are caught in the crossfire.

Now without further ado, I give you the fabulously talented Terry Spear!

Hi Terry! Welcome back to VRB! It’s been a long time and I’m so excited to have you back today! It’s no secret that I go a little “fangirl” whenever your name comes up, so thank you for visiting again!

I LOVE fangirls!!! Who are hot and bothered for wolves and jaguar shifter types. I’ve got to say they’re just howling to see you, too! Thanks so much for having me back!

You’ve had quite the busy year. Can you tell everyone what you’ve been up to with your writing and just life in general?

I’ve been writing up a storm! Four books out this year, 3 wolves and 1 jaguar shifter, but you know, that’s only the half of it. Between edits and promotions, I’m constantly writing on the next book and the next. So here we go—I’m just finishing up edits on Silence of the Wolf, and that book will be out in January 2014. That’s Tom’s story from the Silver wolf pack in Destiny of the Wolf. Fans have been waiting for him forever, so I hope everyone loves the story. And can you believe it? That’s book 13 in the wolf series!!! I just finished edits on Jaguar Fever and turned them back in and have A SEAL Wolf Christmas first edits coming any day now. I’m down to two more books to write—another Highland wolf book, and the third in the jaguar series. I wanted to get a start on them before I pitched any more books to my publisher. But fans have been asking forever what’s coming next, so I did it! Pitched another SEAL wolf, another jaguar, and another Highland wolf story—and we’ll see if my publisher says yay or nay! If nay? No problem. I’ll come up with some other ideas pronto! Can’t disappoint my readers!

Your new wolf book, A Howl for a Highlander comes out in February. What can the readers expect from the hunky highlander, Duncan, while he’s visiting Grand Cayman Island?

He’s a warrior at heart, the youngest MacNeill brother from Scotland, and determined to get the clan’s money back from a man who stole from the clan. He NEVER is distracted from duty. Until he sees a she-wolf, hot, sexy, and unchaperoned at the airport. Offering her a ride to her villa is only the first step in this romantic tale of trouble. If you’ve never been to Grand Cayman Island, you should go. And if you see a man swimming with a woman at night in the Caribbean, you never know, but it might just be one hot couple of wolves. Believe me, there’s a BIG difference between swimming in a cold Highland loch, and the warm waters of the Caribbean, particularly when he’s with a skimpily-clad she-wolf.

Can you tell us which one of your series will have a book out next?

After A Howl for a Highlander, Duncan’s story, the next in the Highland wolf series, A Highland Werewolf Wedding comes out. (May 2013). That’s Cearnach’s story, 2nd oldest of the quadruplets. He’s 2nd in command of Argent Castle, but gets a little sidetracked when a she-wolf forces him off the road—his words not hers—and she has to drive him to a wedding, he’s already running late to.

Do you have any characters that are just screaming for their own book in any of your series?

David in Jaguar Fever, brother of Wade Patterson. Poor guy desperately needs his own she-cat. His story will be coming up in Jaguar 3. And Guthrie, financial wizard for the MacNeill Highland wolf pack, 3rd oldest brother. I’ve pitched his story (along with Cassie from A Highland Werewolf Wedding). He is the last of the brothers that need a mate. And one of Maya’s cousins, his story was pitched for Jaguar 4. Then of course, there’s the other cousin….And…it just goes on. LOL

I absolutely love the new Jaguar series. What was it about the Jaguars that made you decide to start a new series?

My editor wanted me to! So I was trying to come up with a shifter that would be comparable to a wolf—powerful, feral, beautiful, yet still close by. They used to live in New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, so the first story is set in Texas. They live in Florida also, and I have that Wade is from there. The difference is that the jaguars don’t live together in a pack like wolves do. So I had to work that concept into the story so they’d still have a HEA. It’s been really fun switching back and forth between worlds.

Any chance your Wolves and Jaguars will show up in the same book?

*smiling* In A SEAL Wolf Christmas, Hunter and his SEAL team, Anna, and Bjornolf are in the Amazon on a rescue mission. But while there, they come across a hut that smells an awfully lot like jaguars have taken up residency. Jaguar shifters? Nah. In Jaguar Fever, zoo man Thompson shows up looking for a missing jaguar from the zoo, referring to the missing wolves he’s had trouble with. So there’s some back and forth fun there.

In Silence of the Wolf…Elizabeth and Tom think the woman passing them in the butcher shop smells like cougar… Nah.

Are you still writing any vampire stories? After all this time, I’m still a huge fan of Deadly Liaisons and would love to read more!

Absolutely! Dangerous Liaisons is the sequel to Deadly Liaisons, and I’m still working on it. I also have Vampire Redemption, sequel to Huntress for Hire, which I started a long time ago too. When I get stuck on my wolf/jaguar stories, sometimes I take a break and play around with my vampire stories!

I see on your website there is a Romantic Suspense called, Bound by Danger planned. The cover alone makes me want to read it. Can you tell us a little about it and when it might be coming out?

Years ago, I wrote a story, Deidre’s Secret, a YA about a young girl who has future visions. I fell in love with her and her twin brother and wanted to see what would happen when she grew up. So later, I wrote Bound by Danger. She’s still in the midst of trouble, still using the martial arts her brother taught her, only now she’s an Army officer with a new neighbor who is out to protect her. Only he’s FBI undercover and who’s going to protect her from him? I’m not sure when it will actually come out. It’s finished, but I’m still editing it. I’ve got A SEAL Wolf Christmas edits coming up, so that has priority.

As your popularity has grown over the last several years, what would you say has been the biggest change you’ve made because of it?

I quit my day job!!! I’m sooo excited to be able to write full time. I was able to finally write Highland Rake, third Highland Medieval romance of my series, which I wouldn’t have had time to do otherwise. They were coming out one every two years and fans have been asking for the next one. I’m working on Taming a Wild Highlander for book 4, the youngest brother’s story. And I’m able to concentrate on my writing so much more than before, when I was having to write in the morning before work, after I got home at night, every spare moment I had off. I still do! Except, I’m able to write all the time. And I love it.

Will you be touring any of the conventions this year? Where can fans expect to see you for signings?

Yes! This year, because of not worrying about taking a limited amount of vacation time from work, I am attending the Romance Writers of America National conference in Atlanta, Authors after Dark, and RomCon.

For those who haven’t read any of your books, is there any one book in particular you would suggest with which to start?  If it makes it easier you can break it down into genres.

Heart of the Wolf starts out the wolf series, although the first four books are about different wolf packs—Destiny of the Wolf (hot Silver brothers’ wolf pack that led to their own set of books—Wolf Fever, Dreaming of the Wolf, Silence of the Wolf), Hunter’s Oregon Coast SEAL set—To Tempt the Wolf, A SEAL in Wolf’s Clothing, A SEAL Wolf Christmas, Legend of the White Wolf (need to do another with them!), and then came the Highland wolves—Heart of the Highland Wolf, A Howl for a Highlander, A Highland Werewolf Wedding, and another Highland book to write soon. And then there’s the Jaguar series-Savage Hunger, Jaguar Fever, Jaguar 3 (to write soon)

Terry I could spend all day asking you questions but I know you have a busy tour so I’ll wrap things up. I can’t thank you enough for coming by and visiting with us. You are always a favorite here at VampireRomanceBooks and I congratulate you on your continued success! Is there anything you’d like to add or anything you’d like to say to all your adoring fans?

Thanks to EVERYONE who bought my books and made A SEAL in Wolf’s Clothing a USA Today bestseller. Without your support, it wouldn’t have happened. When I got the call from my editor, I thought she wanted to talk to me about my next book edits. It took me a moment—or two or three—to realize I’d made the bestseller list. I have to say I tried getting hold of my son and daughter, then my critique partner, and couldn’t get hold of anybody!!! So I finally posted it on FB, and my fans were the first to learn of it, drinking cyber champagne toasts to the accomplishment! So thanks!!!! You all mean the world to me! 🙂

Thanks again, Terry, and I hope to have you visit again soon!

Thanks so much for having me here today, Rhonda!! As always, I hope everyone loves the wolves and now the new jaguar series. You never know what will be up next!!! Maybe a cougar shifter in the future? Who knows…

Discover a New Love

Darkness Unveiled is the conclusion to the Cursed in Darkness Series. The reader gets to see a lot of familiar characters as Layla once again fight for her life and for those she loves.

It seems as though Layla is the one to carry everyone’s burden, she takes responsibility of protecting those around her meanwhile she has to fight her own demons. From the beginning Layla has proven to be a strong heroine. Shayla is the daughter of Layla and Shade. She has a prominent role in the book that I believe followers of the series will be surprised to see.
Hancock has penned another action packed story with several unexpected twists. I can tell a big difference from the early books in the series until now in terms of her writing. I believe she will only continue to improve and grow.  The ending of Darkness Unveiled did a good job of tying up the series and giving the reader closure. Yet Hancock left room to expand into another series. Nikalye’s character especially was left with loose ends. He was one of my favorite characters from the beginning and I would love to see him with his own story. I think there is a lot to his character that was left unexplored in this series.
I know we haven’t seen the last of these characters, and I am curious to see the direction Hancock will take with the next series.

While darkness rises with each passing second and the lives of others are on the line, Layla must make the ultimate decision—stay with the others to keep them safe, or lure the darkness away, potentially risking her life while doing so. Complications grow with the darkness, and forbidden passions begin to show, making Layla unable to think straight as her hidden desires make her crave to walk down the forbidden road she promised herself not to step on. As she gets lost in her thoughts and what her body wants, hungry for the passion she knows she can’t have, the darkness grows stronger, taking control and Layla is forced to do things she would never dream about doing. She realises that in order to rid the darkness within, a sacrifice has to be made in order to save everyone else. Will Layla ever with be free from the darkness inside? Or will this finally be the end for her?

Darkness Arising is the sixth book in the Cursed in Darkness series. Things have calmed down for Layla and she is getting on with her life. She is enjoying being a bonded mate to Shade and a mother to Shayla.  However, the easy life doesn’t last long when troubles call once again.

In this latest installment Layla goes from student to teacher and it actually has the feel of some of the earlier books, with the exception of the setting. It didn’t feel like the story got off to the quick start that the last book did, but when the action picked up it was smooth sailing. Hancock continues to build the relationship between Layla and Spade and these two are as hot as ever. She has really taken the steam factor up a notch with these two. The fight sequences she writes also remain exciting.

Perhaps this latest effort wasn’t my favorite in the series, but the ending had me very excited for the next book. Hancock has set the reader up for a compelling ending to this series. I am more than ready for Layla’s next adventure.

Publication Date: November 1, 2012

Layla is finally free from the nightmares the humans caused and is trying to give everyone the life they deserve, helping them to know their enemies and train to fight against them. With Shade by her side, loving her with more than his touch and body, anything is possible, and Layla has never been happier as she prepares everyone for future dangers. Now that the humans are out of the picture, the Shadow Demons are on the hunt.

However, she is not prepared herself when darkness arises inside the one creature she thought she knew. Someone that could bring down all creatures alike in a matter of seconds, someone who knows everything about her, knows all of her secrets. Knows what she fears most. Who is it?

Forbidden is the first in the new series, World of the Nightwalkers, featuring Bodywalkers, an ancient race that shares the physical being of humans; they are two souls in one body.   They descend from ancient times and Egyptian culture, and are dependent upon their human hosts.  Once the Blending is complete, neither can survive without the other.
Docia Waverley is the victim of a brutal murder and journeys into the realm where Bodywalkers wait to choose their next host.  Here, Docia is given the choice to live again with the help of the Bodywalkers, or continue on to her final resting place.  She didn’t realize she would be choosing to fight an ancient battle of good vs. evil when she chooses life.
Ram finds Docia when he senses that his queen has returned.  However, this time around, he feels more than a brotherly love towards his queen, sole mate of his king.  He feels electric each time he touches her, and an undeniable attraction for her that he shouldn’t feel for his best friend’s mate.
As the battle of good and evil wages, Ram battles his urges and his twin soul, trying not to give in to his desire to possess this beautiful woman.  If he succumbs, he could jeopardize the entire Bodywalker existance.

From New York Times bestselling author Jacquelyn Frank comes this first book in The World of the Nightwalkers—an exciting and sensual new spin-off series in which the Bodywalkers, an ancient race of the night, battles the evil forces who prey on them.
The unexpected happens in an instant. On her way to work, secretary Docia Waverley hurtles into a crashing crossroads, and she quickly begins to suspect that things will never be the same. Then, when a tall, blond, muscular stranger intervenes on her behalf, telling her it is his duty to protect her at all cost, what is just a feeling turns to proof positive. That is, as long as Docia’s savior doesn’t turn out to be a crazed kidnapper.
When Ram finds Docia, he has no doubt that she is his queen. But as this golden warrior sweeps in to protect her, he feels something more than body heat every time they touch. He is overwhelmed by a searing connection that goes deep into the twin souls inside him. A desire rises in him that is forbidden—this woman is his queen, the mate of his king, his leader, his best friend. And yet Docia is so vulnerable and attractive that she awakens a hunger in Ram that is undeniable, a carnal craving he cannot yield to . . . not without risking the very survival of the Bodywalkers.

Set during the violent and bloody French Revolution, Night Fires gives us a tale of an unusual vampire heroine.  Simone is both pious and dangerous.  She’s committed to helping people escape from unjust persecution.  She forms an untrusting alliance with an enigmatic assassin.  Known only as Corday, an English spy with single-minded purpose to complete his mission, Corday can’t help but be intrigued by the mysterious woman who can break through his ennui and make him crack a smile.  In an atmosphere of tension and suspicion, Karen Harbaugh slowly peels back the layers to reveal the depths of her two lead characters.

While the character development was certainly strong, Ms. Harbaugh could use a little help beefing up her action scenes, which were sadly lacking in detail.  I would have loved to read of bones cracking, bodies flying through the air to smack into something, and the tangy, copper taste of blood.  I had to supply the details in my imagination.  Additional details in this regard would have made for a more exciting read.

The plot was good if a bit too coincidental.  I also got a lot of insight into the terror and unrest that was going on in France at that time.  I would certainly be willing to read the sequel, Dark Enchantment.

Enter a midnight world of dark seduction and unquenchable desire, of sinful pleasure and breathtaking intrigue—where amid the flames of war and the immortal thirst of two irresistible lovers, an alliance is born that would burn forever….

Beautiful and damned, Simone de la Fer roamed the French nights as a vampire. A reluctant immortal, she thought she’d never again taste the bittersweet pleasures of mortal love—until she met an enigmatic human spy she found impossible to resist. Haunted by his own violent past, Michael Corday arrived from England on a secret mission. On a starlit highway he found his life changed forever by a creature of the night unlike any he’d ever encountered. Unable to deny their destiny, they traveled together through the
Parisian underworld on a dangerously erotic journey to right a terrible wrong—even as they were stalked by a merciless hunter intent on destroying them. For theirs was a passion so taboo, it had been forbidden by human and vampire alike; so sinful, it could only be paradise. And they would risk eternal damnation to taste it just once again…

Reading Black Moon Awakening is like watching an action movie.  This book open with a bang and maintains a strong energy level.  The opening scene begins with Therian operative, Jude Black, on a simple surveillance mission that goes horribly wrong.  He soon finds an unconscious woman in a laboratory and determines to rescue her.  Jude’s life gets very complicated after that.  Letitia is a werewolf and an enemy of the Therian race.  Letitia and Jude must put aside their mutual distrust to discover the source of frame ups and deadly attacks.

There is plenty of ‘run-for-your-life’ action adventure in this first book of what is likely to become a popular series.   I thought everything was pretty standard for the first third of the book, but then the author began incorporating an Egyptian mythos into the twists and turns.  The plot was thick with many layers and implications for the various races.  The forbidden love story had some cute and unexpected complications that were entertaining.

The storyline did not come to a conclusion in Black Moon Awakening, so presumably a sequel will follow.  Fans of romantic paranormal suspense won’t mind that a bit.

Publication Date: May 7, 2012

Shapeshifter Jude Black, level six operative for the Therian Senate and their deadliest weapon, has served his superiors for ten years without question. He was raised to believe his job is one of the highest, most honorable occupations in the realm. Killing is what he does, and having each mission wiped from his memory is a non-issue until his brother Garrett goes missing.

When it appears that the Senate’s only concern is to make him forget the whereabouts of his only brother, Jude begins to question his loyalties. Then he meets the beautiful, hazel-eyed Letitia Hawkes and all his precepts are put to the ultimate test. She is a werewolf, one of his race’s sworn enemies, but she’s being used by Eideroche Medical, the same people who made his brother disappear.

Jude’s convinced Letitia is the key to the answers he desperately needs to find his brother. At least that’s what he tells himself as he teams up with her to find out just what Eideroche is up to. But soon Jude finds himself in the deadliest battle of his life as he falls in love with the one woman that both of their races will consider a traitorous act punishable by death . . .

With a leg firmly on both sides of the Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy fence, Susannah Sandlin has created a fascinating world on the verge of a vampire apocalypse.   The vampires are hungry.  A recent plague has resulted in humans being vaccinated with a substance that makes their blood poisonous to vampires.  Visionary Aidan Murphy has created a community, in rural Alabama of all places,  where unvaccinated humans and the vampires they are bonded to can live together peaceably.  This is a major change from the traditional predatory approach vampires have taken to humans, and it causes great unease in the vampire hierarchy.  Aidan’s own brother, Owen, is sent to destroy the town.  In desperate need of a doctor for his people, Aidan resorts to kidnapping, and finds himself needing way more than just medical services from the feisty physician.

The writing in this book is superb.  Ms. Sandlin writes like a seasoned professional and Redemption belongs on the same shelf as your other favorite paranormal authors and titles.  The characters are drawn with detail and attention.  The plot is excellent and well paced.  There is plenty of action to keep the story boiling.  The ending line of the book referenced a much earlier conversation and was the perfect conclusion.  As the first book of the Penton Legacy series,  Redemption was a winning beginning.

I absolutely loved this book.  I will be eagerly reading future books in the series and checking out other releases by Ms. Sandlin.

The world’s vampire population is on the brink of starvation since the vaccine to treat a global pandemic rendered human blood deadly to them. Their only hope for survival is a handful of rural areas that the vaccine never breached. The tiny town of Penton, Alabama, is one such enclave, where the immortal Aidan Murphy has established a community of vampires and their willingly bonded humans. Together, they live in peace—until Aidan’s estranged brother descends upon the town and begins attacking its humans. Whether the rampage is a result of his centuries-old feud with Aidan or the civil war threatening to erupt in the vampire world matters not. All that matters is the blood. Desperate to save his adopted family, Aidan breaks one of his cardinal rules, kidnapping an unvaccinated human doctor—and unexpectedly falling in love for the first time in nearly four hundred years. Sensual and thrilling, Redemption is the first installment of what is sure to be a darkly addictive new series from paranormal romance novelist Susannah Sandlin.

Terry Spear does it yet again. Howl for a Highlander brings us the story of Duncan MacNeill, one of the hunky Highland wolf quadruplets we met in Heart of a Highland Wolf. Duncan has left his homeland for Grand Cayman Island and is hunting down the thief that stole his family’s fortune. With a single plan on his mind he has no desire to play tourist while on the island. Little did he know his plans would be sidetracked by the sexy little she wolf Shelley Campbell as soon as he departed the plane. Sensing a female wolf all alone, well, what could any self respecting male do but make sure she was protected and entertained. Tracking down the thief and protecting Shelley from an over amorous wolf doesn’t keep the two of them from finding a little time to enjoy the beautiful island.

As with every Terry Spear novel, her descriptive writing draws you into the story and you’ll feel like you’re on the island right along with Duncan and Shelley. With just the right amount of romance, humour, and suspense Howl for a Highlander showcases everything we’ve come to love of Terry Spear. Each and every character comes with a story all their own and make their way into the hearts of the readers, not to be forgotten. Terry Spear has a seamless way of bringing characters together whether they run the forests in America or the ageless castles in Scotland, you never know who’s going to show up in a future book.

If you aren’t already a fan of Terry’s, Howl for a Highlander will win you over and have you running to read about the rest of her wolves. From Highlanders, SEALs, and everything in between, no one writes sexy alpha wolves like Terry Spear.
