Heritage Avenged is a fantasy novel complete with wizards, sorcery and mythical creatures.  Lyra, along with her wizard lover, Cullen, work to solve the mystery of her aunt’s suspicious death.

Moore paints a colorful picture of a whole other world.  I found the story’s setting to be intriguing and magical. I also enjoyed the relationship Lyra and Cullen shared.  Cullen is unable to survive in the mortal world so Lyra is becoming a student of the Dragonspeir magic so that she can live in his world.  Although I liked the main characters, I feel I would have been even more connected to them if I had seen the relationship from the very beginning.

I must admit that I am normally not a fan of this type of fantasy story.  However, there is no doubt that Moore can weave an extremely imaginative tale.  She really paid attention to detail and the novel was very well written.  The beginning of the book moved a tad slow for me, but it steadily builds as it goes, and doesn’t lack in excitement.  If you haven’t read the first book in the series, I suggest you pick it up before taking on this read.  I did not have the opportunity to read the first one, and I felt like I was missing out on a lot.

Heritage Avenged is the second book in the Enchanted Bookstore Legends.  I really believe that any fan of the fantasy genre will appreciate this series.

In Heritage Avenged, Lyra McCauley receives an alarming letter from the coroner who evaluated her deceased aunt, originally thought to have died of cancer. The news causes Lyra to take leave from her job and travel from sunny Tampa to the frozen island community in northern Michigan. Questioning whether Dragonspeir magic was responsible for her aunt’s death, she resolves to learn the truth and accepts the Imperial Dragon’s appointment into the Alliance sorcery training.

Additionally, becoming proficient in magic craft is the only way she can bridge the gap between her mortal human world and her lover’s. Cullen, a 220-year-old wizard, is dependent upon his Dragonspeir magic for immortality. He is her only family now; she cannot lose him.

Evil forces block her and try to steal her inherited scribal aura. Riding a stealth dragon, a cloaked rider pursues Lyra. Both the Alliance and Dark Realm alchemists lay tricks and traps. Her aura equals that of the first and most powerful Scribe, but will Lyra’s novice training allow her to discover the truth? Will she be able to be with Cullen, or will the Dark Realm keep them apart?
