Hexes in Texas is a hilarious story about Julie McNabb, a security witch who is tired of doing the same job every day in the frigid Canadian town she’s lived her entire 200+ years. Making the decision to get transferred, against her family’s wishes, to the warmth and excitement of New Orleans she puts her plan into action. That’s about as far as the plan works out for her. Instead of New Orleans she ends up in Bug Tussle, Texas surrounded by farm fields, attracted sexy unicorn handler named Vance, fighting a hex throwing psycho witch, and trying to find a way to save Bug Tussle and all the towns like it from the bad guys.
I loved the the way the author kept the humor flowing throughout the book while still presenting the characters with serious challenges to face. While we get to meet a ton of fantastic characters, all you’d be hard pressed not to like, we are also given some fairies, gnomes, and spoiled rotten colorful unicorns.
There are not a lot of books out there that actually manage to have me laughing out loud, but Hexes in Texas did. The story ties up nicely at the end without a big cliffhanger, but left with enough that we can only hope Ms Kopra will write more about these witches/wizards and the world of Bug Tussle.
If you are looking for a break from the usual, a quick fun read, then you have to pick up Hexes in Texas.
Fed up with the slushy snow of winter, and the frigid Canadian wizards Julie McNabb wants a transfer to somewhere warm, and where the men are smoking hot!
Instead, she ends up in Bug Tussle. A small wizard farming community in Texas where the unicorns freak her out, and the resident witches watch NASCAR and eat Barbeque.
Despite her goals to get out as fast as she can, Julie makes friends, has fun, and falls for Vance, the hunky animal manager. Now if only Julie can convince Vance to give up on Mrs. Right, for Mrs. right now!
