Stop me if you’ve heard this one before.  A woman finds out she is the destined lifemate of a vampire, and is swept away to live with him ……and his family on their Amish farm.   Lydia Michaels takes a familiar storyline and puts it in an entirely new setting in Called to Order, book 1 of the Order of Vampyres series.  She does an excellent and credible job explaining why vampires would choose to live an Amish lifestyle.

I did think Annalise was a little more calm and accepting of her abrupt lifestyle change than the average woman would have been, but overall, Called to Order was a very nicely written and likeable book once you get past the first two chapters.  Ms. MIchaels was a bit redundant while laying out the vampire rules at the very beginning but then the story took off.  I loved that Adam discovered his true mate slowly in his dreams, not seeing her face or knowing who she was in his initial dreams.  The author could have chosen some familiar roads to go down with the villain, but she chose a more complex route and I applaud her for that.  The foundation for book 2, Calling for a Miracle, was nicely laid in this book, and I look forward to reading it in the future.
