Tonight, Rain Calisto searches for her man, and Rhys Matthews comes into focus. He is well-built and sinisterly sexy. In the same Denver nightclub, Armand Anastasio searches for his woman—Rain. But the men are more than gorgeous. They are vampires, and they are unmated. A chance encounter lands Rhys and Rain together. Their attraction remains undeniably powerful and they fall prey to lust. With each passionate tryst, Rhys senses a connection that goes beyond the flesh. Unbeknownst to Rhys, Rain is a diabetic. Her insulin alters her biological makeup, disguising a revelation he isn’t quite prepared for. Rain is Rhys’s fated mate. As they struggle with this knowledge, another bombshell is dropped. Rain’s insulin-laced tissue creates a rare vampiric blood that can fetch a hefty profit, and Armand has always known this. Is his attraction to Rain genuine, or is he just out for her blood? This is the diary of Rain and Rhys. Recorded here is their transformation from a flesh fantasy to eternal love.

I am pleased to introduce our Featured Author Maya DeLeina. Maya is the author of the fabulous Ambrose Heights Vampires series. The first book in the series Flesh Fantasy has quickly become a VRB favorite.

Maya has stopped by and answered some questions for us. Without further ado I give you Maya DeLeina!

Picture with me a spooky castle from an old fashioned vampire movie.  Evil gargoyles stare unblinkingly at you from the roof and seem to watch your every move.  A sense of evil and foreboding hangs in the air.  The servants are fearful and afraid to meet your eyes.  Your intuition screams that the place is full of intrigue and dark secrets.  Now make a slight adjustment to your mental picture so that the castle becomes a gothic, Italian palazzo and you have the setting for Christine Feehan’s Lair of the Lion.  Feehan’s talent at depicting vivid imagery is sensational in this clever marriage of a gothic Beauty and the Beast meets sexy shape-shifter book.

While many of Feehan’s books can be light on plot, this story happily has plenty of intrigue and mystery.  Isabella Vernaducci will do anything to rescue her brother.  Her last hope is the legendary Don Nicolai DeMarco, a man with money, power, and rumored supernatural abilities at his disposal.  Isabella agrees to become the bride of the man that others cannot look upon as human.  She is doomed to be murdered by him after bearing an heir.   Love and compassion are pitted against raging lions and centuries old curses.

Lair of the Lion is a stand-alone book that is not part of a series.  It is an excellent example of paranormal romance that fans of the genre will greatly enjoy.  It’s the kind of  tale that you’ll wish someone would make into a movie.  In the meantime, cuddle up and enjoy a good read.

From Amazon:

Impoverished aristocrat Isabella Vernaducci will defy death itself to rescue her imprisoned brother. She’ll even brave the haunted, accursed lair of the lion–the menacing palazzo of legendary, lethal Don Nicolai DeMarco. Rumor says the powerful don can command the heavens, that the beasts below do his bidding…and that he is doomed to destroy the woman he takes as his wife. But Isabella meets a man whose growl is velvet, purring heat, whose eyes hold dark, all-consuming desire. And when the don commands her to become his bride, she goes willingly into his muscled arms, praying she’ll save his tortured soul…not sacrifice her life.

This is the third book in the collection, the other two have been the meat and potatoes of the story, where the characters have been established and embellished upon and now there is the possibility of marriage between Derrick and Annabel. This has been a most awaited for book since the other two had been launched, and so far hasn’t disappointed for reasons I will mention.

I noticed there are those races in this book that are furious at them wanting to be life mates, both werewolves and fellow vampires, but readers will think it is up to them to choose. This conflict between werewolves, vampires and humans is great for the book, though as it shows the different prejudices involved. Derrick and Annabel just want to have a good life together, and in this novel of the Deadly Sins series of books, it might not be possible.

The mere fact Annabel has to fight for the right to be herself and marry who she wants to makes her hit in my books. She has all the passion and outrage of a woman who cares and who wants to break the bonds of vampire oppression. There is the problem of the vision Memory is having about a vampire on the rampage that could cause trouble for Derrick which is explained later.

Superbia, like the other two is set in a Buffy the Vampire Slayer kind of place where all kinds of monsters can cause problems for Derrick and Annabel, and it is that feel of the story which captures the imagination, and keeps the reader turning the pages.

It is intensely dramatic and shocking in places, especially during Annabel’s wedding, and it can be corny in places – but I think it’s intentional.

One word of warning – once you start reading, you won’t want to put the book down…just thought I’d say.

Be sure to read the first two books in this fantastic series, Luxuria and Invidia.

With wedding bells in the air and fire brewing on the ground, you know things are much too perfect for something not to be brewing. As Derrick and Annabell prepare for their life together, a proud and bitter bounty hunter attacks them at their own wedding and shoots the bride, seeking revenge on the new Queen of the Damned.

Annabell’s subjects finally take a stand against the arrogant race of humans and are ready to fight for the sake of their race. But the battle won’t be the easy when the recruits have been sworn enemies since the beginning of time. Werewolves and Vampires.

Derrick must make the most important decision of his life, while another sees their own life slipping away. Plus, an unwelcomed visitor for Jonathan appears in the image of his beautiful blonde sire, who has a bit of a vendetta against Lucy. And as the conflicts begin against each race, Precious and Paul find themselves being torn apart by Pride and Prejudice, as a she-wolf starts to stalk her new prey.

Without Regret is the first in the Sentinel series. I was happy to find all the characters I enjoyed in the Pyte Series book Tall Dark & Lonely. Without Regret is Chris’s story and since I fell in love with his character in TD&L, I was very excited to read about him again. I’m quite sure Ms. Mathewson was tired of me emailing her wanting to know when Chris’s book was going to be published.

Chris has stepped into his Sentinel duties and I enjoyed reading about him now that he’s all grown up.  I found Without Regret to be highly emotional and at times heartbreaking. Mathewson’s writing style has the ability to draw you into her story easily and made it very difficult for me to put this book down until I couldn’t keep my eyes open any longer. Each and every character is well developed and their interactions with each other are so real it grabs your emotions so you find yourself laughing, crying, and biting your nails right alongside them.

While you could read this first book in the Sentinel series I would highly recommend you read Tall Dark & Lonely: Pyte Series before you read Without Regret.  I think it would make it much easier to understand the history and emotions behind the characters which is an integral part to this story.
