I prefer when the war aspect overshadows the romance (opposite of Twilight!), and it kind of sounds like that’s the case with Through the Veil.
My personal favorite vampire romance / war series is Pact Arcanum by Arshad Ahsanuddin. I’ve read the first book (Sunset) and am halfway through the second (Sunrise), and I LOVE it.
